This page is just to give you an idea of what I aim for nutritionally – it is not intended as advice in ANY way!
I try to cook with natural and whole foods as much as possible. I’m not a total convert and as much as an all organic, natural diet sounds like a great plan – I simply cannot manage 100%. I look at labels, and try to choose the best options I can. Natural peanut butters, no hydrogenated oils, local produce, whole grains etc. etc. BUT, there will always be a box of Kraft Mac and Cheese and Jell-O in the cabinet. I also enjoy a diet soda here and there and still use Splenda (hey, I’m trying!). I don’t want to deny my kids of the simple things like hot dogs at barbeques and roasting marshmallows – everything in moderation!
My children have never had fast food and even though I know it will happen eventually, I figure I’ll put it off as long as possible! I haven’t had fast food in over 7 years. It doesn’t agree with me AT ALL. The hubby on the other hand, well let’s just say I’m working on him (read: nagging him to death!).
What I have found works best for me is a caloric intake of 1500-1600 cals a day with a ratio of 40% carbs, 40% protein and 20% fat. That’s what I aim for. It doesn’t always happen, but that’s life and you do your best.
